If there is a category of hustlers that can be referred to as classy, then Timi Dakolo’s “Wish Me Well” should serve as one of their anthems. Timi is undoubtedly one of Nigeria’s best male vocalist, and also a great songwriter.
He brings his talents to the fore with this timeless piece. Beginning with him saying his byes to his loved ones, telling them of the promises that the city holds for a willing hustler. No money, just hopes and dream are all he’s got and he believes it is more than enough to earn him a fortune in the city. Along with the well wishes of his family and friend.
The technicality of the audio production does a great job of complimenting the theme of the song. I wish I could say the same about the video. As a matter of fact, other than the picture quality and all the other technical aspect of the video, this video is a total no-no for this song.
I need to be educated on how the video relates to the music. It looked more like an anti-apartheid or anti-slavery P.S.A videos. Maybe it’s one of those “artistic” videos that isn’t really meant to be understood, rather it is meant to be analysed again and again, leaving everyone to deduce whatever they choose from it.
Wish me well sounds like a song you should play on the loudest volume as you pack your bag to go on a business trip, or to resume work in another city other than the one you currently reside in. As for those of us who hardly “get to” or “like to” travel, we’ll play it on full blast and enjoy it anyways.
I hope one day we will get to hear of the adventures of this hustler when he finally got to the city.
