ML MUSIC ML SPECIAL SONG OF THE DAY

Mr President – African China (Song Of The Day)

When in 2006, African China released the song Mr President, the perspective then was that Nigeria was so bad, it would take a “miracle” to get any worse. Fast forward to fourteen years later and the worst thing about 2006 is Nigeria failing to qualify for the FIFA world cup.

It is quite disturbing that the president that inspired the song Mr President, then engaged Idris Abdulkareem in a war of words over Jaga-Jaga is probably the best President we’ve had in over twenty years.

Things have gotten so bad that someone could reply ex-president Goodluck Jonathan’s independence day message with “you should have rigged that election, at least things won’t be this bad.”

When the news of a coup in Mali broke, Nigerian youths who have never experienced the uncertainty, disarray, and bloodshed that accompanies coups, especially in Nigeria, were wishing we could have one.
It seems for the Nigerian youth, since plotting a coup is out of their hands, they can at least start a revolution.

Some might want to ask, is a protest a revolution or is a revolution a protest? I don’t know too.
At least for now.
We will have to wait until it all ends before we see the handiwork of this watershed moment.

It hurts that in 2020, the year 2006 is starting to look like utopia. The only way we can prevent having to look back at the 2020 year of Coronavirus as “the good old days” by the year 2030, is by ensuring we start the process of fixing Nigeria from this protests.

There are a thousand and one things wrong with Nigeria. If we pick one to protest on every day, we will run out of days before we run out of issues. Worse still, the ruling class will “unlook” so badly, we will have to go look ourselves in the mirror to be sure we are still visible.

I have heard people who have personally known President Buhari since he was a General express shock that he is made a statement acknowledging the agitations.

Now that we have the attention of the President, like a child who has been deprived of parental attention and finally got it, we must drive our demands home. It seems we just found our voice, we must use it. And if we want this to be the starting point, we must speak up every day, until we are heard.

Mr President, do not let your mishandling of this moment be your legacy. It is looking like we have too many bad memories to choose from already.
