The Bible Says Cleanliness Is Next To Godliness – Josh Journal
The ease with which people confidently quote the Bible with sayings that are not in the Bible is quite surprising, shocking, frustrating, and disappointing.
In today’s episode of things the bible did not say, we will be talking about “cleanliness is next to godliness”.
I have honestly lost count of how many times I have heard people attribute this quote to the Bible. From pastors to teachers, and other adults.
I heard it so often, I almost believed it.
It wasn’t until I sat down to think about it that it occurred to me that I have never read this in the Bible. Like ever.
Considering how often and confidently these people quote it, how come none of them ever specified the chapter or verse? Instead, they predicate it with, “the Bible says”.
I can remember Deuteronomy chapter 23. Especially verse 10-14.
The Bible already does a great job of emphasizing the importance of cleanliness. You don’t need to go the extra mile of turning a Jewish or Babylonian quote into a Bible verse.
Based on Deuteronomy chapter 23:14, cleanliness might as well be next to godliness. It makes a lot of sense.
Just stop saying the Bible said so.
