Joromi – Simi (Song Of The Day)
It is February 15th. Finally, Valentine is done and lots of people are either glowing or smarting in the aftermath of their “Celebration” from yesterday. Some people proposed or got proposed to, others broke up or were broken up with, some other people got “left hanging” while some folks got to play out Barney Stinson’s “He’s not coming”. Whichever category you fall into, note that it only gets better from here on.
2018 has been termed “The Year of Ladies Shooting Shots”. So far so good, neither I nor anyone I know has been a recipient of said “shot”. Acknowledged, I am off the “market”, but someone “Shooting her shot” on me will serve as a booster to my ego and will make for an interesting story. Matter of fact though, how do I tell her “no” without hurting her feelings? How would she handle the rejection? Will we be able to remain friends after the event? For goodness sakes, how do y’all ladies handle this? I think I need to talk to one of my Lady Friends about this prospective event. You can never be over-prepared for such incidents.
Now to the song for today, Simi tells the story of the delectable Sister Simi deciding enough is enough with Uncle Joromi forming “Tough Guy” while she is all “Good Girl-ish” and “They” never happening because he never gets to ask her out. She is taking matters into her own hands and is going to “shoot her shot.”
The heart of man is desperately wicked says the bible, the heart of a woman, on the other hand, is “beautifully and frighteningly” cunning. Simi’s “shot” preys on the fact that Uncle Joromi would never abandon a “Damsel in Distress”. She gets on the basketball court where he is actually “shooting shots” with his guys, distracts him by feigning to twist her ankle, getting him to lose possession of the ball while his team concedes a goal in the process.
Characteristically, as a gentleman, He lifts Simi up in his massive strong arms, carries her to his car and drives her home. Simi hurriedly jumps down and happily strides down her walkway as Uncle Jorormi realizes he had been coned. Simi left behind her purse in the car knowing as a “Gentleman”, he would surely return her purse.
All she had to do was wait and gladly she did that and smiled as she saw his message come into her phone. Her “cards” were indeed “falling into places”.
