Happy Birthday, Mummy! – Josh Journal
Today is my mum’s birthday and for the first time ever, my younger sister insisted we celebrate it.
My sister is not currently in Lagos, so it was going to be I and my brothers, along with my mum’s brother and sister. That is just a small unit of our quite large family.
When my sister informed me of her plans, it occurred to me that this would clash with my long-scheduled meeting with a couple of friends. I needed to reschedule.
The problem though was that this was a meet up that had proven impossible to schedule because of constant conflict of calendar.
Eventually, I settled on seeing my friends after Church service, then rushing back to my parent’s to join in the celebration. That sounds easy, except that this is Lagos, and traffic doesn’t know what exactly a “Sunday” is.
I must say, I do not regret the meet up. It is great to have awesome friends. When I told them that it was my mum’s birthday, they were excited. Jacinta my good friend even insisted on sending a gift to my mum to wish her a happy birthday.
Tell me how more awesome a friend can be.
I will tell you more about my visit tomorrow, in the meantime, I want to thank God for blessing me with a great mum.
Only she can tell you how much of a troublesome-handful I was, growing up. Looking back now, I know I didn’t make it easy on her.
Through it all, she was loving, kind-hearted, and hard-working. She helped us in understanding and building a relationship with God. She taught me to be hardworking and ensured I was capable with all the house chores.
Thanks to her, I am a great cook. If you have any doubt, you can ask those who have tasted my delicacies. You can also schedule your own visit, because I know your tongue won’t lie.
Happy birthday, mummy. I pray you live long in health and wealth to celebrate more of this, and more with your children.
