ML MUSIC ML SPECIAL SONG OF THE DAY

Ed Sheeran – The A Team (Song Of The Day)

The A Team is easily one of the most calming and relaxing music produced in the last decade. That is until your hear the words. Then it’s almost like a nightmare
When life seems easy, unadventurous or boring, it is easy to forget that there is a flip side that isn’t exactly rosy, adventurous, fast paced, but rather filled with difficulties, abuse, struggles, subjection, objection and addiction.
The A team reminds me of the environment I grew in. It is easy to have an innocent and non-observant eyes as a child until you revisit your childhood.
I can still remember two brothels close by my house, another on the way to school and then neighbors who were into sex trade but weren’t staying at the brothels. I might have not seen addiction to other drugs, but dependence on alcohol and cigarettes was a common sight.
I remember seeing girls just a couple of years older than me arrive the city of Lagos, not to school, not to get into a legitimate trade, rather to engage in prostitution in exchange for a roof over their head, and daily meals.
It is easy to raise our voice about slave trade still going on in Libya, lifeless bodies of young black people washing up on European beaches, and other vices that the western media beam to us via satellite TV and social media. But where is the uproar about teenage girls being brought to Lagos and sold to brothels and hotels to be used as prostitute?

The same guy who is tweeting about the inhumane condition of victims of the modern slave and sex trade in Europe is paying a prostitute for sex, although he knows her “madam” will end up with the lion share. The same guy won’t give a girl a job unless she will sleep with him and assure him of easy access to her body in the future. He also would never help any female friend or acquaintance of his unless she gives him her body in return.
It is time to begin to Love your neighbor as yourself. Not only when your neighbor happens to be pretty, or intelligent, or capable of returning the help someday. Rather, just because it is the right thing to do.
You never know when you are the last hope someone has. You don’t know how much courage they had to summon, the pride they had to set aside before asking you for help. We all pray for a perfect life, you might be there already, close to it, or not so close to it. But when you get the chance to, do help the next person. That might be the reason they never join “The A Team”.

The A Team Lyrics:

[Verse 1]
White lips, pale face
Breathing in the snowflakes
Burnt lungs, sour taste
Light’s gone, day’s end
Struggling to pay rent
Long nights, strange men

[Pre-Chorus]
And they say
She’s in the Class A Team
Stuck in her daydream
Been this way since eighteen
But lately, her face seems
Slowly sinking, wasting
Crumbling like pastries
And they scream
The worst things in life come free to us

[Chorus 1]
‘Cause she’s just under the upper hand
And go mad for a couple of grams
And she don’t want to go outside tonight
And in a pipe she flies to the Motherland
Or sells love to another man
It’s too cold outside
For angels to fly
Angels to fly

[Verse 2]
Ripped gloves, raincoat
Tried to swim and stay afloat
Dry house, wet clothes
Loose change, bank notes
Weary-eyed, dry throat
Call girl, no phone

[Pre-Chorus]
And they say
She’s in the Class A Team
Stuck in her daydream
Been this way since eighteen
But lately, her face seems
Slowly sinking, wasting
Crumbling like pastries
And they scream
The worst things in life come free to us

[Chorus 1]
‘Cause she’s just under the upper hand
And go mad for a couple of grams
And she don’t want to go outside tonight
And in a pipe she flies to the Motherland
Or sells love to another man
It’s too cold outside
For angels to fly

[Bridge]
An angel will die
Covered in white
Closed eyes and hoping for a better life
This time, we’ll fade out tonight
Straight down the line

[Pre-Chorus]
And they say
She’s in the Class A Team
Stuck in her daydream
Been this way since eighteen
But lately, her face seems
Slowly sinking, wasting
Crumbling like pastries
And they scream
The worst things in life come free to us

[Chorus 2]
And we’re all under the upper hand
And go mad for a couple of grams
And we don’t want to go outside tonight
And in a pipe she flies to the Motherland
Or sells love to another man
It’s too cold outside
For angels to fly,
Angels to fly,
Fly, fly,
For angels to fly,
To fly, to fly
For angels to die.
